ProtectED win "Contribution to Standards in the Security Sector" award

ProtectED has been named winner of the prestigious IFSEC Security & Fire Excellence Award 2019 for "Contribution to Standards in the Security Sector". This year’s Security & Fire Excellence Awards took place at the London Hilton on Park Lane Wednesday 20 November. Hosted by Tess Daly, the event was attended by around 1,000 guests. Andrew Wootton and Brian Nuttall, two of the Directors of ProtectED CIC, were there to receive the award.

Andrew Wootton, ProtectED Director, said, “I am delighted and honoured for ProtectED to receive this prestigious Security & Fire Excellence Award. It is a tribute to both the hard work of the ProtectED team and the support and guidance of the ProtectED Advisory Board. The award provides endorsement of the ProtectED concept and approach to improving standards in student safety, security and wellbeing in the HE sector. We hope it will encourage those forward-thinking universities committed to addressing these issues to join us.”

The Security & Fire Excellence Awards were judged by a panel of 20 experts, drawn from the security industry, professional security bodies and representatives from a number of certification bodies. IFSEC stated there was an especially high number of quality entries this year, so to have won against such high-calibre entrants shows the standard ProtectED has achieved. Now in its twentieth year, the Security & Fire Excellence Awards highlight "the very best people, projects and processes that the security and fire sectors have to offer." This is a huge achievement for ProtectED.

Brian Nuttall, ProtectED Director, said, “This award confirms our belief that ProtectED is an innovative and practical concept that will improve student wellbeing. Such an endorsement will give confidence to HEIs that ProtectED is a worthy investment and encourage them to get on board in improving the student experience.”

The ProtectED team is extremely proud to have won this highly regarded award. ProtectED is the first national accreditation scheme for universities to address holistically student safety, security and wellbeing. It is the result of four years' research, design and development by academic researchers, professional services and security specialists, guided by an advisory board of sector experts. We are very pleased that forward-looking universities are joining ProtectED to help make a positive difference to students' lives.
