About us

A collaborative effort

The ProtectED Code of Practice and accreditation scheme is the result of more than two years research, design and development by a multidisciplinary team of academics, university security services staff and external industry experts.

Development of ProtectED is supported by the ProtectED Advisory Board — a group of public and private sector experts in standards development and issues of student safety, security and wellbeing.

Design Against Crime Solution Centre

The University of Salford’s Design Against Crime team has been undertaking research into design-led approaches to reducing crime and increasing wellbeing since 1999. Launched in 2003, the Design Against Crime Solution Centre has grown to become a European-wide network of researchers, police and practitioners in design-led crime prevention, and is supported by the European Commission. The Solution Centre was the official UK delegate to EU COST Action TU1203 Crime Prevention Through Urban Design and Planning (2013–16).
