ProtectED Reflections – Improving policies and services for students experiencing domestic abuse
On Thursday 18 November 2021 at 11.00 GMT, we held our ProtectED Reflections webinar - Supporting students success - Improving policies and services for students experiencing domestic abuse
We were very pleased to welcome our speakers for this event:
Susan Mueller, HE Director of Stand Alone, who support and raise awareness for people estranged from their family
Ruth Cooper-Dickson, Managing Director of CHAMPS for Change CIC and Positive Psychology Practitioner. CHAMPS for Change is a social enterprise that was launched in 2019, with the premise of creating a research hub into post-traumatic growth and to provide coaching programmes for marginalised groups and those who have undergone traumatic and adverse life situations.
The panel discussed: The support available for this vulnerable student group; current recommendations for services universities have in place; and where improvements can be made to better support victims of domestic abuse, so they can go on to have success at university. We also looked at the need for support from organisations such as ‘Stand Alone’ and ‘CHAMPS for Change’, to guide universities in their support of students who have experienced domestic abuse.
The recording of this event can now be viewed on the ProtectED YouTube channel (see above). If you have any questions about this event or the issues discussed, please contact Lisa Ravenscroft at l.ravenscroft@protect-ed.org.
(We apologise that we missed the very start of the event due to technical issues)
